FOOD SAFETY IN A CHILDCARE ENVIRONMENT
As far as
we are aware, we are the only organisation to offer a Level 2 certificate Food Safety course which has been designed specifically
for use in a Childcare environment.
A
food handler is any person, in any type of business, who handles food, whether open or packaged (food includes drinks and
ice) or who may be required to enter food premises, e.g. equipment maintenance engineers, off-site business owners/managers
and delivery personnel. The aim of this qualification is to provide a basic knowledge of food hygiene.
Our course incorporates specific aspects agreed between National Childminders Association (NCMA) and the
Food Standards Agency in relation to registered childminders or child-carers on domestic premises as well as those who provide
childcare on non-domestic premises e.g a nursery. Courses run
by The Royal Society for Public Health and The Chartered Institute of Environmental Health (CIEH) are designed for use in
the Food Industry, Catering, Retail, Manufacturing industries. Our course follows a similar curriculum
but also addresses the specific aspects of Food Safety in a Childcare Environment not specifically covered in these other
courses. Our course is valid 3 years from date of issue.

LEVEL 1
FOOD HYGIENE FOR FOOD HANDLERS (non-Childcare)
A food handler is any person, in any type of organisation who handles food, whether open or
packaged (food includes drinks and ice) or who may be required to enter food premises, e.g. equipment maintenance engineers,
off-site business owners/managers and delivery personnel. The aim of this qualification is to provide a basic introductory
knowledge of food hygiene.
This course follows a similar curriculum to those from The Royal Society for Public Health and The Chartered Institute of
Environmental Health (CIEH) that are designed for use in the Food Industry, Catering, Retail, Manufacturing industries, but
differs in that it is oriented toward introducing the concepts underpinning Food Hygieine to Parents, Volunteers and other
Food Handlers in organisations not engaged in commercial manufacture of food products or retail of foods as part of the catering
and hospitality industry. The course is suitable for those handling food and beverages in support of the activities of members
in sports clubs, social groups, Women’s Institutes or charitable fundraising organisations. Our course is valid 3 years
from date of issue.
