Insurance & Professional Practice
Insurance is your Professional Recognition
Our practitioners are distinguished
from many therapists by their professional standing and recognition. Over the past decade, however, the number of Affinity
groups representing themselves as Professional bodies, Associations, Institutes, Guilds etc has grown into the hundreds.
By way of example, our Founder, Gill Kenyon has worked with, or qualified at membership or fellowship level
of numerous Affinity groups, a few of which include:
· Institute of Complementary and Holistic Therapists
(Advanced Aromatherapist and Advanced Reflexologist) ·
Association
of Therapy Lecturers (FHT - VTCT NVQ courses) ·
Therapy
Lecturers Association (Embody - ITEC courses) ·
NHS
Directory of Complementary and Alternative Practitioners ·
Complementary
Therapists Association (CThA) ·
Professional
Association of Clinical Therapists ·
International
Council of Health, Fitness & Sports Therapists · General Council for Massage Therapies (GCMT) ·
Sport
and Fitness Instructors Association · Federation of Holistic Therapists (FHT) · Federation of Ante Natal
Trainers (FEDANT)
So, with so very many Professional Associations, Institutes, Guilds, etc how do members
of the public know a practitioner is Professionally trained and operates to professional standards ?.
By holding
Employers and Public Liability insurance, a practitioner is complying with legal requirements of a business operation.
By holding Professional Indemnity Insurance, practitioners are taking out insurance to show clients and customers
that they are operating at a professional level. Insurers will request copies of practitioners certificates of training
and qualification when the policy cover is issued.
Practitioners who hold Professional Indemnity Insurance have
had their Professionalism recognised by the insurers, thus giving members of the public, clients and customers, peace of mind.
Where can I get Insurance
?
The H Club does not endorse
any one particular insurer and accepts members proof of insurance from all insurers, whether or not taken out as part of an
Affinity group block scheme or taken as an individual from an insurance broker.

Do I need to belong to an Affinity group ?
Many practitioners are multi-skilled and find that they have to pay fees to numerous Affinity Groups to
cover the different techniques they practice.
There is absolutely NO legal requirement for any Health &
Wellbeing practitioner to be a member of any of these groups. Even Voluntary Regulation will not, if it ever comes to
represent all the techniques, place a legal requirement for a practitioner to register or belong to any particular Affinity
group.
The H Club
is pleased to be able to declare support of all Affinity Group activity that leads to improvements in the quality and
consistency of professional training in all Health and Wellbeing Techniques.
The
H Club does not receive any funding from any insurance body
and is independent of all Affinity Groups. Our members have joined us from all walks of life, channels of professional
training, Affinity group association and hold professional indemnity insurance from a wide range of insurers.
The H Club does NOT require any practitioner
member to belong to any Affinity group or Professional body or register. The H
Club simply requires members provide proof of insurance cover in the
interests of protection of the public.
Why do some Affinity Groups favour one insurer ?
Without external funding, the only way that the business activities of these Affinity Groups
can be funded is through asking practitioners to join and pay a membership fee, they then offer the members access to a
block insurance scheme from which the Affinity group may gain a commission payment or administration fee from
the insurer/brokers.
Most of these Affinity groups relate to one or more specific techniques and have a significant
interest in education and training of practitioners in those techniques. They actively involve themselves with trying
to work with voluntary regulatory bodies or trying to agree some consistency for National Occupational standards for training
of practitioners. The Affinity group then offers trainers and schools access to accreditation for an accreditation
fee. Courses so accredited are then adopted into the block insurance covered by that Affinity group.
